Prompt
/colorfigures A drip coffee maker. Show how the hot water rises without a pump, with parts I can open and buttons I can press. Check your own work from every side before you finish.

Visual breakdown

A free Claude skill called Colorfigures turns one sentence into a 3D machine you can rotate, open and press. Mervin tested it on a click pen, a toilet tank and a drip coffee maker; all three worked correctly but took 25 to 70 minutes.

The problem: Explaining how an everyday machine works usually needs drawings or code; this skill makes a working, interactive model from one line.

What happens after you type one sentence

  1. Colorfigures skillFree skill by April Zhu: eight files, no internet access, nothing runs on install
  2. Install and restartUnpack into Claude Code's skills folder, restart, then type /colorfigures
  3. Claude reads rulesReads the skill's instructions and drawing code, finds the object's real parts
  4. Writes 3D modelWrites the object as a 3D model with working parts
  5. Checks in ChromeOpens the result in Chrome and views it from every side
Dropped: Anything wrong gets fixed and re-checked
  6. Interactive machineA model you can turn around, open and press

Make your own

Install the skill in Claude Code and describe one object in a sentence.

  1. Download the skill and look inside before installing
  2. Unpack it into Claude Code's skills folder
  3. Restart Claude Code
  4. Type /colorfigures and describe your object in one sentence
  5. Wait while Claude writes and checks it, and say carry on if it stops early

Try one small object first to see what it costs you.

Caveats from the tests

  • It is slow: start it and do something else. The coffee maker took 70 minutes and fixed at least four of its own mistakes.
  • It costs money if you pay per use, or uses part of your limit on a monthly plan.
  • The animation runs faster than real life: the coffee brews in seconds, so use it to show how a thing works, not how long it takes.
  • In all three tests the way each machine works was right.
