Prompt
Use VidIQ to analyze my short-form videos on my channel [@channel]. Look at the best performers (script and visuals) and create a skill that writes similar scripts, plus a skill that edits my talking-head A-roll like my existing videos: cut pauses and mistakes using both transcripts and waveforms, add B-roll, animations, subtitles, and background music and sound effects with ElevenLabs.

Visual breakdown

Matt has Claude analyze his best-performing Shorts through the VidIQ connector and turn them into two skills: one that writes scripts and one that edits his talking-head footage. He records the A-roll, drops it into the chat, and gets back a cut, captioned, B-rolled video with music, then refines the skills through feedback.

The problem: Editing a short talking-head video by hand (cutting pauses and mistakes, finding B-roll, adding captions and music) takes a lot of time when you post every day.

What the editor skill is told to do

  1. Cut pauses and mistakes using both transcripts and waveforms
  2. Add B-roll from the source material and from the web
  3. Add animations, subtitles, background music and sound effects
  4. Work headless with ffmpeg instead of a video editor

Set it up yourself

Matt starts on a fresh Claude Pro account with a project called short form video editor.

  1. Create a Claude project and add instructions describing a world-class short-form video editor that can use VidIQ, Blender, Hyperframes, FFmpeg and yt-dlp
  2. Under Customize, connect VidIQ and Hyperframes, then ElevenLabs (full version for music and sound effects)
  3. Ask Claude to use VidIQ on your channel, study the best Shorts and create a script skill and an editor skill
  4. Connect a local folder and allow the network access it asks for
  5. Paste a URL for a script, record your A-roll, and drag the video into a new chat
  6. Give feedback and tell it to update the skills

The same approach works in Codex with OpenAI models, per Matt.

Gotchas and tips

  • Expect several rounds: the first edit missed background music, left a mistake and had odd audio.
  • If sites are blocked, open settings, Capabilities, enable creating files and internet access, and allow the blocked URLs.
  • If ElevenLabs transcription fails, tell Claude to use another tool and update the skill.
  • Matt treats AI scripts as a guideline and does not read them word for word.
  • Run a monthly review of your outlier videos and feed it back into the skills.
