Let a ChatGPT dot run a 90-day YouTube growth plan

Kevin Stratvert sets up a ChatGPT dot as a YouTube coach: it connects vidIQ, sets a 20% daily-views goal, shares video ideas in a Space and keeps checking in on its own.

Let a ChatGPT dot run a 90-day YouTube growth plan — video by Kevin Stratvert▶ Watch on YouTube
Prompt
Your goal is to increase my average daily views by 20% over the next 90 days. Use @vidIQ for my channel data. Track progress, build a 90-day plan, and send me an update every Monday and Thursday, plus a final check-in after 90 days.

Visual breakdown

Give a ChatGPT dot a big goal (grow daily YouTube views 20% in 90 days) plus vidIQ data, and it plans, schedules its own check-ins and keeps working on a cloud computer while you're away.

The problem: A regular chat or a weekly scheduled task needs you to prompt every step; a goal like channel growth needs something that decides what to do next as data comes in.

How the YouTube coach dot works

  1. Create the dotChatGPT → Dots → new dot on its own cloud computer, named YouTube coach.
Dropped: Local-computer access skipped for this demo
  2. Connect vidIQ pluginPlugins → search vidIQ → authorize, so the dot can read channel analytics.
  3. Short goal prompt+20% average daily views in 90 days, @vidIQ, updates every Monday and Thursday.
  4. Baseline and planFinds ~403K views/day baseline, ~484K target, search traffic down ~9%, writes a 90-day plan.
  5. Schedules its check-insCreates Monday/Thursday tasks plus a final 90-day check-in by itself.
  6. Team feedback in a PageAdds 3 video ideas to a shared Space Page; swaps one after a teammate's comment.
Dropped: Windows 11 idea (already in production) replaced by Excel
  7. Proactive updatesNext day it reports a new video's early views and suggests refreshing an old tutorial.

Dot vs. chat vs. scheduled task

  1. Regular chat: you ask it to analyze the channel and recommend videos, one prompt at a time.
  2. Scheduled task: it checks performance on a fixed schedule, e.g. weekly.
  3. Dot: you give it the bigger goal and it figures out what to work on next as new information comes in.
  4. Each dot gets its own cloud computer, so it keeps working while your computer is off.

Set it up yourself

You need a ChatGPT plan that includes dots; if Dots isn't under New chat, it isn't on your account yet.

  1. In ChatGPT, click Dots (below New chat), create a new dot and keep the default cloud computer.
  2. Name it and pick a look (Kevin chose YouTube coach with a sprout pet).
  3. Open Plugins, search vidIQ, click + and authorize access.
  4. Give it a short goal prompt: the target, the timeframe, @vidIQ for data, and when to send updates.
  5. Check Scheduled tasks to confirm the check-ins it created.
  6. To collaborate, create a Space, invite teammates, add a Page and @mention the dot to fill it with its ideas.
  7. Give feedback by @mention in the Page or by calling the dot from the icon at top right.

The dot carries your feedback into its future check-ins without being re-prompted.

Tips from the video

  • Keep the prompt short: state the goal and let the dot decide how to get there.
  • Mention the plugin directly with @ so the dot actually uses it.
  • Tell it what kind of ideas you want; Kevin asked for evergreen, search-focused tutorials while still watching major new releases.
  • Early check-ins may say it's too early to measure the goal because the latest analytics haven't arrived yet.
  • Teammate comments on a Page can be handed back to the dot to update its recommendations.
